Calcutta: The Indian men’s cricket team, as well as the women’s cricket team, have landed in England for a long and demanding tour – which includes the Test World Championship final against New Zealand, then a series of five tests against the ‘England.
Wriddhiman Saha, who recovered from an episode of COVID-19 during the IPL, tweeted a photo of him on the hotel balcony located inside the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The WTC final will take place there from June 18 to 22. “This is our view from the bedroom balcony..Your thoughts?” Saha tweeted.
Earlier, the Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI) tweeted photos of skipper Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj as well as senior female cricketers Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami just before leaving for London on a flight charter.
The players were all masked. This is the first time that the men’s and women’s teams have traveled together. “Here we go,” the BCCI tweeted on its handle with the photos.
Both teams traveled to Southampton upon arrival in London and underwent RTPCR tests. They will spend their mandatory quarantine at Southampton, where the men’s team face the Kiwis.
The women’s team play a single test against England in Bristol from June 16 – their first test after seven years.
As the women’s tour ends on July 15, the male team members remain for a series of five tests against England in August-September.
The women’s team are also expected to play three ODIs and three T20Is against England after the test match.
