Star Wars: Cargo Bay on Disney Wish
Disney Parks // AUGUST 12, 2022
Loth-cats, porgs and more await you aboard Disney Wish.
A Loth cat dozes in a corner, its body moving gently with each breath, while a wide-eyed porg invites you in with its soft cooing, while Chewbacca fiddles with buttons across the room. This is not a scene from a movie; it’s a real life experience for children to star wars: Cargo Bay on the Disney Wish – which StarWars.com recently explored during the cruise ship’s christening voyage.
At Disney’s Oceaneer Club, children ages 3 to 12 will discover star wars like never before by becoming animal caretakers in star wars: Creature challenge. They will be able to feed and care for creatures across the galaxy using augmented reality-enabled datapads to track and study each specimen. A simple scan of each creature’s tag will give them information and place them on a series of special missions. As with all missions, challenges arise and Rey and Chewbacca will make an appearance to help, channel the Force, and even save the ship from destruction.
Spacewalking is like being on a boat in a boat. Low ceilings provide a warm atmosphere, just the right height for youngsters but spacious enough for adults. The dark room is pierced with brightly lit buttons, and the wall panels become beacons for interactivity, with each button and switch just begging to be pushed and pulled as if you were on a work ship.
Every corner has something to look at, from the working screens to the astromech rooms to the droid build station, but it’s the creatures that really capture the imagination. Besides the aforementioned Loth-cat and porg, there are species of planets from all over the galaxy, even as far away as Atollan. The distant planet’s native dokma with its distinctive eyes waits for an interaction, while Tatooine’s own worrt is caged and probably for good reason.
Eagle-eyed guests will notice small details like a hidden porg nest, which can only mean one thing: the creatures are definitely on the loose aboard this ship. While these creatures are ready to be studied, others are waiting and not so easy to find. A nondescript pipe isn’t just bedroom decor; a simple twist of the attached valve and ominous bubbles appear…meaning the dreaded dianoga is not far behind! Fortunately, a thick wall of glass pipe separates you from the elusive beast.
Tinkering around in space, interacting with creatures from across the galaxy, while having Chewbacca by your side is a charming star wars live. Although being a space zoologist is not currently a real profession, star wars: Cargo Bay is as close as it gets.
The Disney Wish, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, is now sailing.
