On Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind bestowed the “President’s Colour” on the Indian Navy (INS) ship Valsura in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

The “President’s Colour” is awarded to any military unit in honor of outstanding service to the country, both in times of peace and in times of conflict. A ceremonial march with a 150-man honor guard was presented to the President to commemorate the event.

On May 27, 1951, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, then President of India, presented the President’s Color to the Indian Navy, which was the first branch of the Indian Armed Forces to receive it.

INS Valsura, a flagship training institution of the Indian Navy, was established in 1942 with the mission of providing electrical, electronics, weapon systems and information technology training to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy , coastguards and friendly foreign countries. “For nearly 80 years, INS Valsura has distinguished itself through outstanding and valiant service to the nation,” the Navy said in a statement.
