Harry Potter VR experiences open in New York – the Hollywood reporter
Just over a month after the three-story, 21,000-square-foot Harry Potter New York store opened in New York’s Flatiron District. Harry potter and fans of the Wizarding World have the chance to try two new magically immersive virtual reality experiences.
Created by WarnerMedia as part of a joint effort with Dreamscape Immersive, the leading virtual reality company, interactive software company Wevr and UK studio Keylight, “Chaos at Hogwarts” and “Wizards Take Flight” enable for fans to explore the Wizarding World in two distinctive storylines that bring the popular book and movie franchise to life in awe-inspiring new way.
Hollywood journalist got a glimpse of the recently launched 30-minute experiments that debuted on Thursday and encourages fans to interact with creatures, characters and popular locations from the Harry potter universe.
Tucked away in separate corners of the store, the personalized entrances for each VR experience are flanked by costumed employees who guide you through your adventure. Ticket holders are first taken to a decorated waiting room, where they don their state-of-the-art adjustable VR gear and receive instructions on how to navigate their next trip. This is also where you will learn how to cast spells and select your own avatar who will wear the robe of your Hogwarts house.
Large Harry potter fans should keep their eyes peeled for the various Easter Eggs hidden in these retention areas, where recreated props, posters, signage and more sit on shelves or in lockers, and hang alongside the room and hallway walls.
While headsets offer a 360 ° view of every scene (including everything beneath you), immersive items and bodily equipment such as helmets and manual trackers required for âWizards Take Flightâ and âChaos at Hogwarts âhelp distinguish this experience from other VRs.
In “Wizards Take Flight”, you are asked to sit on a broom and pull out a peripheral wand that will be vital in a high-flying battle against the Death Eaters. Participants are encouraged to shout their spells while waving their wands (with perfect technique) as they balance on their broomstick, which moves up and down and side to side to help you fly virtually.
Dobby briefly comes to help the guests before they have a chance to roam the grounds of Hogwarts freely, including around the Whomping Willow and Quidditch Pitch.
Led by Hagrid, you’ll then cross the London skies where you’ll meet Voldemort’s horrific followers in their signature black balaclavas and masks. As your avatar moves through virtual fog and thunderstorms, prepare to have your own hyper-realistic physical experience in the virtual reality room.
The effects, combined with the movement of VR gear (which will rumble in cases where you hit or slide the roofs of buildings), “Wizards Fly” may be the closest you’ll feel like flying with a broom.
âChaos at Hogwartsâ offers a different and arguably more involved immersive VR experience thanks to the added elements of walking and teamwork. Unlike the flight experience, guests are required to wear backpacks and foot trackers in addition to helmets, hand trackers, and peripheral chopsticks for this standing experience only.
That’s because you’ll be traveling the halls of Hogwarts, from common rooms of houses and moving stairs to dark, watery hallways and – at one point – a rather crowded (and fiery) large hall. Along the way, you’ll be casting several spells, so you might want to refresh your memory on some of the bigger ones before you jump in.
With your wand in hand, you’ll begin with an intensely realistic experience on Platform 9 3/4 before passing through several popular Hogwarts locations and encountering a handful of magical creatures, a few familiar ghosts, and a number of chatty portraits.
As you walk through the school, be prepared for some incredibly realistic situations including the feeling of free fall and even rumbling under your feet. An exciting and action-packed first visit to school, the young wizards and witches will embark on a wild ride led by Dobby that can end in a number of ways.
Both VR adventures require separate ticketing, size and age requirements, and are wheelchair accessible. Younger and older participants should also be prepared for distinctly different action stories that may look more like 4D attractions than standard VR.
Tickets for âChaos at Hogwartsâ and âWizards Take Flightâ are currently on sale and can be purchased on the Harry Potter New York website for $ 34. Adventures, which are currently available for dates July 15 through August 15, require scheduled bookings with advance booking strongly encouraged. Tickets for the period August 16 to September 15 will be available in the coming weeks.
Customers who purchase their VR experience tickets will not need to enter the Harry Potter New York virtual queue, which manages the store’s capacity, and can go to the front line upon arrival 30 minutes prior. the scheduled time.
Once you’ve completed your VR adventures, you can also explore the store. Located at 935 Broadway, Harry Potter New York offers fifteen themed zones, including wand and customization shops, a butter ale bar, a Honeydukes-themed candy store, and MinaLima’s first permanent home. This is where you can browse and purchase prints from the design studio behind the graphic accessories of the Harry potter and Fantastic beasts.
There are also a number of interactive experiences, including a London phone booth for photo ops, a fairly large re-enactment of Nagini (who occasionally whistles in Parseltongue), and a store-wide scavenger hunt featuring props. movies.
To visit the store without a VR experience ticket, you will need to enter the virtual queue and verify that you are following Harry Potter New York health and safety guidelines.
