The RAFA President said: “There are so few and so few left who served in WWII, which is a shame and it is important that we pay tribute to those who are still here.”
Representatives of the ACE care service were also present.
Sydney’s primary caregiver Nicole Bromley said: “He was so sweet. He was a true gentleman, one of a kind. There was never a dull moment with Syd.”
One of her family’s floral tributes carried the Sydney slogan “Give Me My Deaf Help” and was written by some of her beloved grandchildren, Gavin, Donna, Anna Karena, Adam, Clarke, Mark, Roseanne, Laura and Robert.
The tribute added: “What a legacy you are leaving behind.”
Moving tributes were paid by granddaughter Laura Hunt who spoke of her service to install and repair bombed radar stations throughout the UK during the war as well as some weapons.
He was also passionate about gliding and flew until he was 80 years old.
Sydney, a father of six and an 18-year-old grandfather, also had a great-great-grandson and lived independently in Adlard Grove in Humberston.
