NEW DELHI: Indian 200m ace Dhanalakshmi Sekar has not yet completed his US visa formalities which is why his name was not on the list of Indian entrants released by the international athletics governing body for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA -United.
Dhanalakshmi was named June 30 to India’s 22-member squad for the July 15-24 world championships in Eugene, USA. But now, it might be difficult for her to participate in the showpiece as she has not yet completed the visa formalities.
“My visa has not been obtained yet. My first visa appointment was canceled so I am trying to do that,” she told PTI from Thiruvananthapuram where she is currently training.
The Tamil Nadu athlete could not breach the automatic qualifying standard of 22.80 but managed to qualify for the World Championships through the World Ranking.
On June 26, she clocked her personal best time of 22.89s to win gold in the 200m at the Qosanov Memorial Athletics Meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and became only the third Indian woman to run under 23 years after the national record holder. Sarasvati Saha (22.82s) and Hima Das (22.88s).
Dhanalakshmi won a gold medal in the 200m at the National Interstate Championships in Chennai in mid-June with a time of 23.27 seconds.
The list of Indian participants published on the World Athletics website also does not include 4x400m relay team candidate Arokia Rajiv, who had withdrawn from the second event held on Friday in Patiala.
